Privacy Policy

This site is run by The Coward Short Film Production (CSFP), the team making The Coward, a short film set in the War of 1812. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it.

What we collect

You can browse this site without giving us any personal information.

If you join our mailing list through our sign-up form, we collect your email address and only add you once you confirm by clicking the link in the email we send you. If you later give us your name, we keep it with your email address. Once you are on the list, our email service records when you open our emails and which links you click.

If you use our contact form, we collect your name, email address and message, and use them only to reply. Messages are kept in our website’s admin. If you tick the newsletter box, we add you to our mailing list straight away, without a confirmation email.

When you visit the site, our analytics and advertising tools collect information about your visit, such as the pages you view, your browser and device, and your IP address. The tools are named below.

How we use it

We use your email address to send our monthly newsletter, with behind-the-scenes news, rough edits, new videos and early bird access to our Kickstarter. If you give us your name, we add it to the end credits as an Early Supporter. We use open and click information to see what our subscribers find interesting. We use visit information to understand how the site is used and to measure our ads.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

MailerLite runs our mailing list and sends our newsletter. MailerLite states that it stores data in the European Union.

Meta (Facebook and Instagram) receives visit information through the Meta Pixel, which we use to measure our ads. We have also provided Meta with an encoded (hashed) copy of our subscribers’ email addresses, which Meta matches to its own accounts for use in our ad targeting.

Google receives visit information through Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, which we use to understand how the site is used.

Vimeo hosts our videos. Our video players load with Vimeo’s do-not-track option turned on.

Kickstarter handles pledges to our campaign under its own privacy policy. If you back the campaign, we may note that on your mailing list record.

IONOS hosts this website.

Each of these companies handles information under its own privacy policy.

Your choices

Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can use it at any time. You can also email us to ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
